Difficulties in singing

As we all know, singing is a very critical and complicated thing to perfectly accomplish because of the things that you need to acquire before anything else. There are proper ways or method that you have to meet and follow before you step up on the next level. One of the things that most individuals face in their journey is the difficulties encountered. Even the best and professional ones do experience struggles in releasing the right voice. Listed below are the common problems that beginners and experienced ones face at the moment.

Improper Posture

It is one of the most ignored essential that people tend not to mind. Some don’t know the importance of having a good posture when it comes to singing. The usual thing or method that people used to is to sing with a range of posture that is collapse and unbalanced which eventually lead to unsuccessful results. The perfect alignment of the body should be balanced, straight and forwarded instead of sluggish and slanted position.

Poor breathing support

It is the usual problem that most beginners actually encountered when they are engaging in lessons or tutorials about music. They tend to breathe improperly just to release the voice needed which is actually not right or proper because the result will be greatly affected. Most of us tend to breathe from other parts rather than the perfect one which is the diaphragm.  The diaphragmatic breathing is the correct way to use in order to bring out beautiful and natural tone of voice.

Poor Tone quality

When we say tone quality, it simply refers to the richness and clarity of the voice. There are terms used to describe certain tone such as clear (without any noise attachment), rich, resonant (rich in harmony), nasal (like singing with decongested nose) and breathy (too much released of air). Experts considered clear and resonant tones as the best tone to produce because they are more of a natural and healthy compared to other types. Producing the proper tone is done through proper breathing, posture and transition.

Limited Range of Pitch

Inexperienced ones do have encountered this problem since they are not properly taught and trained. They think that they can’t reach certain pitch or they feel that a certain tone is difficult to attain because it is very high. The limited pitch range can be improved through certain techniques and training such as proper mechanical gesture of the vocal fold vibration which can be attain through diaphragmatic breathing and related air pressure.

Incorrect Articulation

Incorrect articulation happens when the jaw, lips and palate are highly tense that disables them to function in normal condition which eventually affects the tonal production of the voice. It also happens to certain singers that have speech habits when singing that greatly bring an impact to the performance. To avoid these circumstances you should be knowledgeable in the proper modification of pronouncing or articulating words in a song.

Vocal Abuse

Overdoing every essential in singing leads to certain situation that the vocal chords are badly affected is one of the common problems beginners encountered. It is also related on how the individual takes care of his or her overall health such as eating a balanced diet, exercise and proper sleep which are great factors to produce a beautiful sound. Drinking too much cold water is also an example of vocal abuse because it can damage the vocal chords and the result will be unpleasant. To avoid all of these situations, try to maintain a healthy body and voice as well.

Lack of Discipline

Just like every activity that we do on a daily basis, singing also needs discipline from an individual who wants to perform such passion.  One of the things that most individual do is not having the full attention to what they are doing such as taking singing lessons and drinking soft drinks afterwards or entering in tutorial class unprepared. An example of a disciplined individual who pursues singing is an attentive, dedicated and efficient one.

It is very normal to face or encounter problems or difficulties in everything that we do or pursue because these are all signs that we need to learn, understand and improve so that we can be better for the future.

Easy warm up exercises before you sing

Singing is the act of producing musical sounds through the vibration of the air that we breathe in and breathe out through the nose and mouth. If you choose singing as your passion, you will not be able to get all the results in just a snap because this is something that you have to give your full attention and dedication. You will undergo some training and lessons before you can actually perform singing. You have the option to learn by yourself or through the help of a voice coach. But first thing that you have to do is to exercise your voice before actually singing it out loud.

Massage the tongue

One of the first thing that you can actually do is to massage the tongue so that it will be relaxed and on normal form. Simply place your index fingers on top of your chin and drop your jaw so that the mouth will be open and then you can slowly massage the base of your tongue.

Massage the temporal mandibular joints

You can find the mandibular joints by placing your fingers just by and in front of ears and simply open your mouth. The mandibular joint is the space where the jawbone actually opens. You can simply massage that space in a few minutes so that the jaw will be exercised as well.

Stretching the tongue out

This tip is the most common exercise that you see from the television whenever there are professional singers giving advice to the public. You can do this by stretching out your tongue so that it will not be tense or constraint when you started singing.

Making funny facial expressions

This method is not just about making funny images or expressions but also exercising or massaging the facial muscles. The facial muscles are responsible for resonance space which gives a good vibration of sound. With this exercise, the muscles will be exercised to give enough space for the air to flow into the body.

Massaging the neck and shoulders

You simply massage your shoulders and neck softly so that they will be loosen up and will be in normal condition when you started singing. As we all know that posture of the body is an essential to proper singing.

Yawning

It is very important to know that yawn is a very useful technique in singing because it exercises the back of the throat so it will not be tense when you sing. You can simply yawn for several times in order to assure that the back of the throat is properly maximized.

Making sounds

It is also one of the most common exercises that professional singers do when they are starting to sing. By making a BRR sound, the lips and the mouth is exercised and maximized so that you can have an easy time to vocalize and sing.

Just like exercising the body, it is very important to warm up the face and vocal chords before you actually sing in order to have a smooth singing process.
